Youth: RBA girls teams compete in home tournament

The Rhinelander Basketball Association's fifth- and sixth-grade girls traveling teams hosted a Great Northwest Basketball League tournament Feb. 14 at the Jim Miazga Community Gymnasium.

The Hodag fifth-graders won the tournament with a 4-0 record. Rhinelander defeated Merrill (33-16), Hurley (41-14), D.C. Everest (40-11) and Antigo (41-4) en route to the title.

The fifth-grade team is currently 17-3 on the season and will take part in a pair of invitational tournaments in Madison and Appleton in late March.

The RBA sixth-graders went 3-1 en route to a runner-up finish in their division. Rhinelander downed Lakeland (43-7) and Prentice (49-21) in the first two rounds, before falling to D.C. Everest in round three (23-37). The Hodags rounded out the day with a 53-10 win over Hurley.

The Hodag sixth-graders will conclude their season Saturday in Antigo.
