The Rhinelander District Library will host Jim Honig, History and Political Science instructor at Nicolet College t 2 p.m., Feb. 25. He will provide a glimpse into the wonderful world of critical thinking. In this entertaining and thought-provoking program, the audience will explore why critical thinking begins with thinking about your thinking with the purpose of evaluating and improving it.
Honig has been teaching at Nicolet College for the past 23 years. He uses this approach to "critical thinking" as a key educational tool to help students focus on how they think about an academic subject. His long-time interest in this approach was sparked by attending his first international conference on critical thinking more than 20 years ago.
"Initially, I began studying Critical Thinking as another tool to help students improve their understanding of history," Honig said. "I have since come to appreciate its singular importance as a means to evaluate and develop the quality of one's own thoughts about almost anything."
This presentation is for everybody. While those in the field of education are encouraged to attend, anyone who has ever wondered about their thinking, or the thinking of others, will enjoy this light-hearted and interesting presentation, the library said in a press release.
Participants will have fun exploring a new response to the now no-longer embarrassing question, "What was I thinking?"
Dessert and beverages will be served. Call the Rhinelander District Library at (715) 365-1070 for more information.
