Fifth annual Kory Dahlvig Scholarship Fundraiser bowling tournament to be held Sunday
By Kayla Thomason-
It will be a nine-pin no-tap tournament.
"(That) means that if you get nine pins down it's counted as a strike," explained Cherri Dahlvig, Kory's mother.
There is no age limit, but participants should be aware that there will be no bumper bowling.
Participants must have a group of at least five people. Groups can register the day of the event for $60.
Proceeds will go to the Kory Dahlvig Scholarship fund to help students learning about criminal justice-law enforcement at Nicolet Area Technical College. Dahlvig, a Nicolet graduate, was killed in an on-duty traffic accident in 2010 while working as a deputy with the Vilas County Sheriff's Office.
The first-place winner will receive a trophy donated by Feight's Trophies.
The runner-up will receive an oil change and a hat.
The team that finishes last will receive something small, like free movie rentals, as a "thank you."
"Just to let them know that we appreciate they came and tried," Dahlvig said.
There will be paddle wheel raffles with prizes including a weekend pass to the Hodag Country Festival, food prizes, gasoline cards, a snowmobile/motorcycle helmet and a beautiful quilt.
Approximately 60 people attended last year's tournament and Dahlvig said it sounds like there will be more groups this year.
"It seems like it's usually people that have known Kory from being a police officer in Vilas County and from being here, from the hometown boy here," she said.
Kory's former partners from Lac Du Flambeau and Vilas County will make an appearance, as will the Blue Knights - a police motorcycle group to which Kory belonged.
"The Blue Knights have been absolutely fantastic about remembering Kory," Dahlvig said.
She hopes people come out and enjoy themselves.
"Please come out and have a good time," Dahlvig said. "It's a good time, we giggle, we laugh, we've got a ton of raffles."
"We miss (Kory) so, so much," she added. "He was the best kid a mom could have ever asked for. He was always, always thinking of us. He was very family-oriented."
