Celebrating its 28th season, "Discover Wisconsin" is the longest-running tourism TV show in the U.S. "A Northwoods Neighborhood" marks the program's 400th episode; comparatively, shows such as "Friends" and "Seinfeld" have produced 236 and 180 episodes, respectively.
"Back in 1986, my dad felt the state and its many assets would be best served by producing a TV series to highlight them. Ultimately, the plan was to help market Wisconsin as a vacation destination to visitors and residents alike," said Mark Rose, CEO of "Discover Wisconsin's" parent company, Discover Mediaworks. "And 28 years later, here we are. Both myself and my wife and business partner, Lisa, couldn't be prouder to work with a team that is as passionate as we are about keeping his vision going for nearly three decades."
"'Discover Wisconsin' has strong roots in Vilas County," added Lisa Rose, CFO for Discover Mediaworks. "We are absolutely thrilled to return to the Northwoods for the show's 400th episode!"
The 400th episode is called "A Northwoods Neighborhood" and it is hosted by Libby Amato, Collin Geraghty, Mariah Haberman and Eric Paulsen.
The show kicks off in St. Germain with Amato heading out on the water with a local fishing guide. Haberman shakes things up at Martinis in May where she judges cocktails at the Whitetail Inn and Amato later is shown judging ribs at Pig in the Pines RibFest.
Additional highlights from the St. Germain segments include Walk in the Woods Art Fair, The Ride with Champions, the St. Germain Radar Run and more.
In Sayner and Star Lake, Paulsen heads out on the trails for biking and hiking while Geraghty discovers recreational opportunities on and around Plum and Star lakes. Local events such as The Star Laker's Club Picnic, Sayner Street Fair and Sayner Spring Stampede also get screen time.
The 400th episode also marks the debut of the new "Discover Wisconsin" theme song called, "The Good Land."
"Our secret to being around for nearly three decades really stems from our willingness to embrace change and growth," said Chad Diedrick, managing director for "Discover Wisconsin." "We knew it was time to reconsider our theme song and one of our first missions was to search for a talented musician with strong ties to Wisconsin."
Diedrick and team found their answer in Memmel, an award-winning singer-songwriter, speaker and composer. Submissions poured in from all over the state but the crew ultimately selected Memmel's "The Good Land."
Memmel is the writer, composer and performer behind "Discover Wisconsin's" new theme song.
"I was thrilled to earn the opportunity to work with 'Discover Wisconsin' toward creating a new theme song," said Memmel. "'The Good Land' is a tribute to my home state and its people. I hope that this music will resonate with audiences and help to ring in an exciting new era for the show."
Memmel hails from Milwaukee. He earned his bachelor's degree. from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. In 2013, Memmel earned the recognition of WAMI Singer-Songwriter of the Year and in 2014, he and his wife, Lesleigh, were finalists on VH1/Republic Records' "Make a Band Famous."
The "Discover Wisconsin" team will debut a music video for "The Good Land" on social media in later in the season.
