In the spring of 1920, local businessmen formed the Oneida National Bank and leased office space in the Oneida Hotel. A granite and marble bank building was constructed on the empty space south of the hotel in 1922. The business was not able to survive the Depression, however, and its accounts were taken over by the Merchants State Bank in October 1931. When a disastrous fire destroyed the office space of the Wisconsin Power & Light Company three months later, WP & L (later Wisconsin Public Service) took a two-year lease on the bank building and remained there for the next 35 years. The building, now Diane's Frame Shoppe, can be seen here in this 1940s photo, just north of Reardon's Drug Store on the corner.
