Coles P. Pratz made his initial appearance in Oneida County Circuit Court Tuesday before Judge Michael Bloom.
According to a criminal complaint filed Monday, he is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
According to the complaint, the alleged victim reported the incident to the Rhinelander Police Department on Feb. 7. She told investigators it occurred on Jan. 18. Pratz was arrested on Feb. 9.
Pratz was represented Tuesday by John Voorhees of the state public defender's office.
Assistant District Attorney Steve Michlig told Bloom a signature bond would be appropriate in the case.
Bloom ordered a $5,000 signature bond with the condition that Pratz not be alone unsupervised with anyone under 18. He must attend Rhinelander High School every day, follow all school rules, and be in his parents' house between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. when he is not working.
Pratz is due back in court Monday for an adjourned initial appearance.
If convicted of the class C felony, he could be sentenced to up to 40 years in prison and fined up to $100,000.
