The James Williams Middle School gymnastics team has kicked off its 2015 season.
The Hodags have two meets under their belt as they prepare for the first home meet on Monday.
Rhinelander won a triangular against Antigo and Marshfield Jan. 26 in Antigo. The Hodags scored 108.2 points, followed by Marshfield at 98.4 and Antigo at 94.85.
Podium finishes for the Hodags in that meet included:
Vault - Raven Sturtevant (2nd)
Uneven bars - Sturtevant (1st), Cassie Choinski (2nd)
Balance beam - Sturtevant (1st), Emily Radke (2nd), Mikayla Evenstad (T-4th)
Floor exercise - Sturtevant (1st), Radke (3rd), Choinski (4th)
All-around - Sturtevant (1st), Choinski (3rd)
The team then traveled to Marshfield Monday for a quadrangular. The Hodags won again with a score of 109.2. Antigo (98.85), Marshfield (98.05) and Mosinee (86.7) rounded out the field.
The Hodags took four of the top five positions in the all-around competition. Sturtevant won, Choinski was second, Autumn Shafer finished fourth and Bridget Koser placed fifth.
Gymnasts were split into two divisions, based on ability, for the competition.
JWMS earned the following podium finishes in the 4-plus division:
Vault - Sturtevant (1st)
Uneven Bars - Sturtevant (2nd), Choinski (3rd)
Balance Beam - Sturtevant (1st), Radke (2nd), Harlie Zimmermann (3rd), Evanstad (4th)
Floor Exercise - Sturtevant (1st), Radke (2nd), Choinski (3rd)
Finishing in the top five in the Level 2-3 division for the Hodags were:
Vault - Pauline Harder (1st), Choinski (T-2nd), Zimmermann (T-2nd), Koser (T-2nd), Evenstad (T-2nd)
Uneven Bars - Maya Paulson (4th), Shafer (5th)
Balance Beam - Choinski (1st), Amber Briggs (2nd), Koser (T-4th)
Floor Exercise - Shafer (T-4th).
The team competed in a meet against Minocqua/Hazelhurst/
Lake Tomahawk and Arbor Vitae/Woodruff Thursday. Results were not available as of press time.
RHS JV gymnasts compete at home
The Rhinelander High School gymnastics team fielded some junior varsity entries during a Great Northern Conference dual meet Jan. 29 against Mosinee/Marathon.
The Hodag JVs scored 57.375 points in the meet. Mosinee/Marathon did not field any JV entries. Maddie Fix posted the highest JV score on the uneven bars (4.35) and the floor exercise (6.9). Nikki Ellis posted the top JV score on balance beam (7.05).
