The dinner theater will be at the Essenhaus, in Wabeno, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Feb. 12, 13, and 14. Reservations are required and should be made early as there is limited seating for the shows.
The play is a spoof on "Falcon Crest," a popular primetime soap opera of the 1980s. The spoof was written by Daniel Boatright, who writes many pieces for the Third Thursday Theater productions at the Essenhaus. According to the press release, the story revolves around the scheming and jealous family of Gabriella Flakey, the domineering and corrupt owner of Flakey Crust, a world famous pre-baked pastry empire. The plot starts to heat up when domineering Gabriella decides to name her successor and summons her current husband, former husbands, children and their spouses to a gala where the heir to her fortune will be named.
Gabriella, played by Carol Bartlein, is surrounded by her conniving children, played by Josh Jameson, Linda Harter, and Tim Friessen. Also wrestling for a piece of the corporate pie are her husband, played by Jim Hammond; ex-husband, played by Robert Brown and his wife, played by Kimberly Odekirk. Add the devious pastry chef Pierre, played by Tim Derfus; a scandalous daughter-in-law, played by Liz Couillard; and a shiftless pool boy, played by Boyd Monte. The struggle for wealth results in a murder. Then Detective Cosmo, played by Jim Odekirk, is folded into the mixture to solve the puzzle.
"The play is full of laughs and is woven with great music," the release states. "The audience will be served up with many solos of well-known pop hits, and the cast will also sing a number of show tunes."
Some of the titles the audience will enjoy are "Material Girl," "Here's a Quarter, Call Someone Who Cares," "Cell Block Tango," "Heard it Through the Grapevine," and many more. The music is under the direction of Josh Jameson. The pianist is the talented Rebecca Jennings. The stage manager is Shirley Ashbeck. The play is under the direction of Carol Bartlein.
The buffet dinner will be served each night from 5 to 7 p.m. The show begins at 7 p.m. Reservations are required. The cost for the dinner and live theater is $20 per person. To make reservations, call (715) 889-1179.
