Today we feature a person who assists in ensuring the library at James Williams Middle School is ready to assist students, Chris Bassette. Bassette not only helps the students find books, she assists them in making sure they have all the tools they need to expand their studies.
RN: Explain your job.
Bassette: I am a Library Media Assistant for James Williams Middle School. My responsibility is to assist students and staff in the process of learning. I try to help open doors through books as well as promoting 21st century skills in education.
RN: How long have you held this job?
Bassette: I have been with the School District of Rhinelander since 2003, and in the library for the last seven years.
RN: What is your favorite part of your job?
Bassette: I love books and truly enjoy every aspect of what a library brings to a community. My focus is to empower students and staff to strive for knowledge in both the pages of a book as well as through technology.
RN: What is the biggest misconception about your job?
Bassette: The biggest misconception is that we are here solely to check out books. We work very hard to instill the love of reading, lifelong learning, and to help our students grow into our community.
RN: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Bassette: I enjoy spending time with my family. We love the outdoors and what each season has to offer, especially hiking, biking and cross-country skiing. I enjoy cooking, baking and, of course, reading!
