Benefit to be held for Rhinelander boy with kidney damage
By Kayla Thomason-
Doctors don't know what caused Ayden Miller's kidney damage. It may have be a birth defect or a blockage caused by a buildup of minerals that blocked his ureter - a tube that carries urine from the kidneys to the bladder, according to Angel Miller, Ayden's mother.
Ayden had surgery to remove a portion of the bad kidney and put a stint in the ureter. The surgeons were surprised by the extent of the damage, according to Miller.
"The kidney damage is substantial and it's something that he cannot come back from," Miller said. "It won't ever heal."
Despite the surgery, Ayden's kidney hasn't improved. The option of a kidney transplant is still on the table but that will be a last resort, according to Miller.
Depending on the results of an ultrasound scheduled for Feb. 9 Ayden may need to have another surgery.
"On a brighter note he's a 4-year-old handsome little boy that has extreme amounts of spunk, he's intelligent, loving and caring and he puts everybody else before himself," Miller said. "He's so loving, I just can't express it. Unless you've honestly met Ayden you wouldn't understand. He's just polite and has manners and is loving and just wants to help."
Local businesses donated a slew of items to be raffled off. Tickets will be $2, $5 or $10 depending on the item. Miller is considering a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction.
"The highlight of the evening is the numerous amount of raffles we are going to be having," Miller said.
Beyond Martial Arts donated 20 months of karate classes, 10 months of MMA classes, 10 months of yoga classes and five massages. There are five guest passes to the YMCA of the Northwoods, a full interior detail from Dodge, remote control start and installation certificate from Sounds and Motion, gift certificates from area businesses, a gift certificate to Lake Tomahawk Meat Market, alcohol from Stein's Lincoln Street Liquor, House of Spirits, and alcohol and gift certificates from Birchwood Bar and Grill. The Look donated shampoo, conditioner, facial cream and certificates.
People can win a king whirlpool room from AmericInn or a one-night stay in a king or queen room at Comfort Inn. Stress Recess donated a light therapy session and a salt therapy session. Sunburst Tanning donated tanning gift certificates. Pomp's Tire donated a gift certificate for a tire rotation and balance.
Also donated was a large stack of free movie rentals from Family Video, a helmet from Schroeder's, waterpark passes from The Waters of Minocqua, a half pound of chocolate and chocolate of the month memberships from the Fun Factory Sweet Shoppe, and an autographed football from the Green Bay Packers.
"I was expecting some donations, I wasn't expecting as much as everything that has been given and businesses calling me asking to donate and people asking to donate and it's pretty crazy," Miller said. "I can't believe the participation of the community businesses, I just can't believe it. I'm eternally grateful."
There will be three vendors at the benefit: Pure Romance, Jamberry Nails and Pampered Chef.
A percentage of what the vendors make will be donated to Ayden. Money raised from the benefit will go toward Ayden's medical bills.
Deejay Mixin' Matt is donating his time and will play anything and everything the crowd wants to hear.
"I would like to include a very large thank you to Greg from Press Express for making all the posters for the benefit plus all of his help," Miller said. "I appreciate everybody who has donated and is willing to participate."
Donations can be given at the benefit or mailed to 6594 Pheasant View Drive, Rhinelander, WI 54501. The check must be made out to Ayden Miller.
