Katie J. Boen was arrested Jan. 23 after her child showed up to school with a swollen eye. According to the criminal complaint, the child told workers from the Department of Social Services and Oneida County Sheriff's Department investigators that Boen struck (him/her) earlier that morning.
Branch I Judge Patrick O'Melia set a $5,000 signature bond with a provision that Boen have no contact with either of her children without the approval of Social Services.
Boen's attorney, John Voorhees, argued the provision should be dropped, but O'Melia said he would "err on the side of caution" and let Social Services make that call.
If convicted, Boen faces up to six years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
