As part of the company's annual Way of Giving, DaVita Dialysis teammates from the Rhinelander and Woodruff locations chose to donate to It Matters to One.
Last week, DaVita employees presented the rescue with a check for $2,000.
"We were very surprised by it actually," said Stef Schneider, founder of It Matters to One. "I mean it was awesome that they just called us and said 'Hey, we've got a donation for you we want to set up a time to present it to you.' We never expected $2,000 at all so that's amazing."
Schneider said she was hoping for $500, so this donation was a very pleasant surprise.
"That's huge for us," she said. "We've really had some benevolent people this Christmas and we definitely need it."
The rescue has a lot of dogs in-house and the donations it receives help the staff continue to provide the best food and care possible for the animals, Schneider said.
It Matters to One is in the process of building a laundry room and would like to have a specific bathing area for the dogs.
Christine Nelson, facility administrator for DaVita, said she believes that one of the teammates rescued a dog from It Matters to One and loved the organization.
"We presented the team with suggestions and we voted and that's what we decided we would do," she said.
Nelson is pleased with their choice.
"I'm really happy (that the donation went to It Matters to One)," she said. "(Stef) seems like she is such a caring person and she was so touched by the donation. She was literally tearing up, so it just felt really good to help her out and the majority of the teammates here are pet owners and so we know that we think of our pets like family, they are our family. It felt really good to be able to help her out."
Other community members and groups have also made donations to It Matters to One this holiday season.
Sixth-graders at Sugar Camp Elementary School recently had a Be Kind Week, where they collected donations ranging from supplies, toys and treats for the organization.
A Vikings/Packers game benefit at Cross Country Bar raised $800 for It Matters to One.
Meg Sprecksel had a Jamberry Nails event at Bucketheads with the proceeds going to the rescue. The donation was $218, in addition to some items.
"I'm just extremely proud and overwhelmed with the community support that we have," Schneider said. "That's huge because we wouldn't make it without them."
In just under three years It Matters to One has saved approximately 560 dogs from death.
"If you are interested in a dog please go through Petfinder, send in an application and enclose photos of your home," Schneider said.
As for those who have already sent in an application, Schneider asks for patience. The staff is small and they are backed up on paperwork, but they will get back to you, she said.

Donations of any kind can also be dropped off at the rescue.
