The Ray Rousseau Post 3143 Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) typically donates about $20,000 a year to various charities in the Northwoods, however, this year's amount totaled $3,500. The organization had to cut back on donations this year because the roof of the VFW building had to be replaced at a cost of $15,000. Organizations receiving a donation this year include the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry, the Military Support Group, Never Forgotten Honor Flight, VFW National Home, United Service Organization, Personal Essentials Pantry, Lions Christmas Not Alone, Rhinelander Historical Society Museum, Rhinelander Alzheimer Association, Tri-County Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, Inc., Downtown Rhinelander, Inc., Rhinelander Area Community Band, Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce, Oneida County Dive Team, the Rhinelander Police Department's K-9 Unit, Camp Birchrock, Camp Tesomas, Wild Instincts, Oneida County Humane Society, the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity Northwoods Wisconsin, Northwoods Alliance for Temporary Housing (NATH), and Coffee and Company. The VFW generates funds for its donations through its Wednesday night bingo sessions.
