By Kayla Thomason-

Wisconsin Public Services made a generous donation to Habitat for Humanity on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 1.

The $5,000 community grant from the Wisconsin Public Service Foundation will be put into Habitat for Humanity's building fund so the organization can reach its goal of raising $100,000 to build its next house or possibly take on a small remodeling project.

"It gives us a great start on building our next home," said Ray Burgan, president of Habitat for Humanity Northwoods. "It's $100,000 to build a home but a $5,000 individual donation is a very nice donation. It gets us a great start in building our next home."

Leah VanZile, community relations leader with WPS, was pleased the utility chose to donate to Habitat for Humanity.

"Habitat for Humanity ... is a really worthy cause," she said. "This ReStore is just something that we have supported in other communities as well so we're really excited that Rhinelander and the Northwoods now has a ReStore as well. There's a lot of benefits to having a facility like this for Habitat to help them continue on with their mission of building affordable homes for people in need and then also to help others in the community too by offering the ReStore and the items that are here."

WPS has been distributing grants to community organizations for over 50 years.

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore will celebrate its grand opening from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 12. Cake, coffee and other refreshments will be served.
