You may have noticed vehicles parading around Rhinelander announcing the liquidation of Slumberland's inventory to make way for the demolition of the store building.

The furniture store is not closing, however. In fact, the warehouse will be open starting next week as a smaller-scale store while the existing building is demolished and rebuilt in the same spot, said owner Jason Hesch.

Sunday was the last day the old store was open.

The demolition process is due to begin Sept. 7 or 8, with preparations to the interior being completed in the meantime.

"We hope to be in by Christmas," Hesch said.

There is nothing wrong with the building, he said, the owners just wanted a more wide open space. "We wanted a new design," Hesch said.

In the meantime, if the smaller Rhinelander establishment does not serve your needs, you can always travel to Minocqua to peruse the Slumberland store there, Hesch said.
