The purpose of the upcoming Sept. 12 Bell Tower Residence Assisted Living Gala in Merrill is twofold, organizers said in a press release. First, it's a celebration of 25 years of care and service of Bell Tower Residence Assisted Living, a nonprofit sponsored ministry of the Holy Cross Sisters. Second, it's a fundraiser for a new 15-passenger van for the facility.

The gala is by invitation only and will be "a night to remember" for the 280 people who attend, according to Pat Sherley, Bell Tower Residence Assisted Living Administrator.

Special parking for the event will be near Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center where a lighted path will lead guests to an outdoor covered tent for registration, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Guests will then move to Assisi Hall for the first course followed by a presentation from Sister Pat Cormack highlighting the Holy Cross Sisters history and legacy. Following the presentation, the main entrée, dessert and coffee will be served. Guests will then re-enter the outdoor tent for live music and dancing. Later in the evening light snacks will be served in the tent.

"It's going to be a spectacular event," added Sherley.

As a fundraiser, the event's goal is to raise $50,000 for a new 15-passenger van. "Currently we use only one van. It's very small and doesn't meet the residents' needs," continued Sherley. Money will be raised through corporate sponsors, event tickets and donations.

Invitations to the event can be requested by calling (715) 536-5575. Tickets are $75 each and reservations and RSVPs are due Sept. 4.

"We're excited to celebrate the legacy of the Holy Cross Sisters. They were ahead of the times when they opened this facility 25 years ago," added Sherley.

The Holy Cross Sisters have a long history serving the Merrill area dating back to 1923 when they were asked by the Merrill City Council to establish a hospital. Holy Cross Hospital admitted its first patient three years later and continues to serve the community, now as Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center. In 1945 they broke ground for a new convent and two years later the convent was complete and housed the Holy Cross and high school students. Twenty-five years ago the convent was remodeled to accommodate assisted living quarters and renamed Bell Tower Residence.

In 2006 Bell Tower Residence completed a renovation with additions that created small neighborhoods in five different areas within the building. In April 2014 the third floor Memory Support Neighborhood opened which provides a safe, secure environment for those with advanced memory loss.

"We're excited to celebrate the past and look forward to the future where our goal is to be the assisted living and employer of choice in Merrill and surrounding communities," concluded Sherley.
