The play, "The Return of Kenny," though billed as a sequel to last year's, "Showdown at the Séance," stands on-its own, and it is not important to have seen last year's show. There is a quick recap of important information, from last year, given at the beginning of the play.
The important information is that Kenny, played by Josh Jameson, and Ralph, played by Tim Derfus, were "sent up the river," for conspiracy and attempted murder of Dorothy Hardcastle, who they were trying to bilk out of her late husband's money. Meanwhile, the two clairvoyants who hosted last year's séance have taken on new personas in the community of Wabeno. Madame Zircon is now Claire Annette Reed, played by Carol Bartlein, and operates a music shop in downtown Wabeno. Princess Anuksunamun has transformed into Paige Turner, played by Linda Boatright, and is an author of romance literature.
The play starts as Ralph has weaseled his way out of jail, but he must find the money he left behind somewhere in Wabeno. Knowing this, his partner in crime, Kenny, has broken out of prison. He, Claire, Paige, and Dorothy Hardcastle's granddaughter, played by Linda Harter are hot on Ralph's tail because they too want the money. Also entering the chase for the money is Bunny Eveready, played by Kimberly Odekirk. Chasing Kenny is the private investigator played by Bob Brown. Rounding out the cast is Ron Bond, who plays the Essenhaus's extraordinary waiter Gustav.
The play is full of laughs and is woven with music. Some of the songs the audience will enjoy are "Big Spender," "Something's Afoot," "Freddy, My Love," and "Good Morning Baltimore," and "You Can't Stop the Beat," both from the musical, "Hairspray." The music is under the direction of Josh Jameson. Mary Ellen and Dale Keller provide the musical accompaniment. Ginnie Riley is props and stage manager. The play is under the direction of Carol Bartlein.
"Don't miss this great musical comedy. Plan now on attending one of the five performances on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, Aug. 28, 29, and 30," the release exhorts. "The cost is $15 per person. Reservations are required and seating is limited." To make reservations call (715) 889-1179.
