The luck of the Irish failed to make an appearance for Shamrock Bar on Monday night at Snowshoe Park in Lake Tomahawk as it fell to the Snowhawks 28-12 in a snowshoe baseball contest.

The Snowhawks brought hot bats to the ballpark during Monday's one-sided affair, invoking the five-run rule four times. The only inning in which the Snowhawks failed to score was the fourth.

The Snowhawks batted in five runs in the first inning and another in the second before Shamrock put its first tally on the scoreboard.

Shamrock managed to muscle out one run in back-to-back innings in the third and fourth innings, but they were pretty far behind by that point in the game, trailing 10-2.

Shamrock saw a glimmer of luck in the top of the fifth when Dylan Brietzke came to bat with two runs in and a runner on second. Brietzke launched the first pitch nearly over the building in left field for a two- run home run.

Snowhawks playing manager Jeff Smith said shots like that don't happen at the ballpark very often.

"I haven't seen one of those hits since one of the Chicago guys (Chicago All-Stars) hit one over there (on the Fourth of July) so that was a really good hit," Smith said.

The Snowhawks wasted no time answering back, invoking the five-run rule in the next three innings of play, leading to a landslide win.

Smith said he was happy with his team's ball placement Monday.

"All in all, we hit the bat pretty good," he said. "We hit the ball where (the Shamrock players) weren't."

Smith added he thought Shamrock showed some real talent and thinks with a little more time together they could be a dangerous team.

"They had a few good players on their team who could smack the ball," he said. "They have to get used to those snowshoes. I think once they play a little more together, I think they will be all right."

As for the Snowhawks, two games remain on the year with next week bringing the All-Star coaches, Little League coaches and parents from around the area to the ballpark to try their hand at beating the hometown team.

Smith said the goal for the Snowhawks is to keep hitting the ball well in the final two games.

"Just stay together, keep hitting the ball and that's all we want to do right now," he said, adding that the team is thankful for the large turnout of fans week after week. (It's) great that we have a nice crowd out here. We're really thankful for that."
