Rain didn't keep supporters away from the 58th annual Three Lakes Fireman's Picnic held Aug. 1 at Cy Williams Park. Once the rain subsided approximately 1,000 to 1,500 people came out to support the Three Lakes Fire Department. "I'm totally humbled by how the people came out to support us, even though the rains were there and after the rain they all came," said Three Lakes Fire Chief Dave Kirby. Those who attended enjoyed a flea market, children's games, a variety of tasty food and beverages, music, and various raffles and prizes. Hand Picked Bluegrass performed for the crowd. "It's a very crowd-friendly kind of band," Kirby said. Those who participated in the raffle had their choice of a wide selection of items to win. The main prize was a fire hose bench made out of 1-inch square tubing tube fabricated by the Three Lakes Steel Spittlemeister Services. The company did the webbing with the fire hose and the Three Lakes FAB Lab did the logo on the acrylic between the two seats. This gift was won by a Three Lakes resident. "It's just super to see the community support," Kirby said. He's also thankful for the out-of-towners who extend their stay to later in the day so they could attend the picnic. A portion of the donations will go toward battery-operated extrication tools for the new fire engine. Kayla Breese may be reached at [email protected].
