Between betting holes, mulligans and raffles, the group raised $2,176 this year - nearly a $400 improvement from last year, according to event organizer Carole Zierden. The money will be split between the James Beck Cancer Center in Rhinelander and Susan G. Komen, the world's leading breast cancer organization.
Prior to the round, the 25 golfers who took part in the Rally for the Cure night gathered around the practice green at Northwood and formed a pink ribbon (pictured at right) - a symbol synonymous with breast cancer awareness.
Zierden said the group would like to thank the businesses and individuals who donated to the evening.
"Cancer touches so many people in so many different ways. It's not just breast cancer, it's a huge connection and some of the ladies talked about that (Tuesday) night. There are so many people that are affected by cancer and have gone through our facility here at Rhinelander, the James Beck Center. It's with our pleasure that we are certainly happy to donate this money," Zierden said. "Even though we're small, we hope we make a difference and let them know there are people out here who care in the community."
