According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Steven J. Morris, 27, was apprehended Thursday afternoon in a seasonal cabin he had broken into.
Deputies, with the assistance of the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, the Langlade County Sheriff's Office, Merrill K-9 unit, Tomahawk K-9 unit, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Department of Criminal Investigation, had been searching for Morris since early Thursday morning when he eluded officers who were trying to take him into custody.
Authorities say Morris initially fled across an open field and into a wooded area north of County Road A in the township of Bradley when officers attempted to arrest him during a traffic stop.
An officer drove around the field in an attempt to head him off, but Morris resisted arrest and pepper-sprayed the officer, the sheriff's office said in a press release. Morris then fled further into the wooded area.
A perimeter, ground and aerial search was immediately established and several hours later Morris was apprehended.
He was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital for medical clearance before being transported to the Lincoln County Jail.
He is expected to face several felony and misdemeanor charges.
