A 52-year-old Tomahawk man has been charged with three felonies in Lincoln County Circuit Court after police executed a search warrant on his house July 31. Steven E. Bailey appeared before Lincoln County Judge Robert Russell on Aug. 3 charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child and one count of second-degree sexual assault causing sex organ injury, all class C felonies. According to a press release from Tomhawk Police Chief Al Elvins issued Aug. 4, the alleged victim was a babysitter in Bailey's home at the time of the alleged assaults. At his initial appearance before Russell, Lincoln County District Attorney Donald Dunphy asked for a $50,000 cash bond with the condition that he have no unsupervised contact with any females under the age of 18 with the exception of his own children. Bailey's attorney, Joseph Loso, was able to successfully argue to have the amount reduced to $25,000. Bailey's preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 11. He faces up to 40 years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000 on each of the three counts if convicted. He would also have to register as a sex offender.
