Rennes Health and Rehab Center, beginning its third year of operation in Rhinelander, is increasing its presence in the community by building an addition that means more room for patients. A ribbon cutting ceremony, which took place Tuesday morning, officially marked the opening of the new addition.

Marketing account liaison Tina Zimmermann said the expansion means better quality of care for residents of Rhinelander and the Northwoods.

"They decided to connect the 100 and 200 wings so we have 23 additional beds, which is going to afford us the capability to bring in about eight more long-term care residents and quite a few short-term rehab patients, as well," she said.

The new addition not only offers an opportunity to house more patients, but it's an efficient use of space. Zimmermann said the rooms will start filling up in mere days.

"The rooms are set up a little bit differently in the newer part of the building, and we did add the nursing station here," she said. "We have a unit manager now, which is a new position. We'll be adding nurses and staff as we start filling the rooms up, which will probably happen as early as next week. That's when we'll start utilizing those beds in the new section."

The addition marks the first upgrade to the Rennes Health and Rehab Center in Rhinelander, but as a whole, the company is looking forward to becoming a bigger and part of the community.

"We're really excited to be able to offer this to the community," she said. "We had a great response with the first opening."

It's that sense of community that makes servicing the Northwoods such an appealing prospect. Administrator Kelsy Bontz said she believes Rennes Health and Rehab Center can be of great value to the area.

"We've felt a really warm welcome in the community as we've been here for a little over two years now," Bontz said. "We really feel like there's a strong need for care for the people in our community and we're pleased to provide that. We offer a wide array of services, from short-term rehab to long-term care. We also offer some outpatient rehab as well, so people in the community can come in if they need some therapy a couple times a week."

Bontz said the public reception since the facility opened a little over two years ago has been nothing but positive, and that's no more apparent than what she's hearing from customers.

"We have a lot of repeat customers, which is great," Bentz said. "People have come back and said they were here before and wanted to come back again. We feel that the word of mouth is really spreading. People are hearing about us and hearing great things. We're very pleased with the response we've gotten and the warm welcome."
