The event starts at 10 a.m. and the crockpots are usually cleared around 2 p.m.
Admission is $5 and attendees will be given a punch card to vote for their favorite chili.
More than a dozen types of chili, ranging from traditional to chili mac, chicken and pork, were featured last year.
"It's a fun event actually, it's nice in the fall, the weather has always been great. You get to see the downtown because you are walking it," said Debbe Kinsey, executive director of the Merrill Area Chamber of Commerce.
Each vendor dishes out a 1/4 cup of their chili, and with over a dozen to sample that adds up to a stuffed belly.
"It's a fun fall event, I mean it really is, by the end of it you're stuffed," Kinsey said.
Almost every vendor runs out of chili by the end of the day, she added.
Each vendor decorates his or her table which adds to the festivities.
"There's a lot of interesting chilis and the decorations downtown are always great that time of year," Kinsey said.
The winner will be announced at the end of the day after all of the chili has been tasted.
Along with bragging rights, the winning chef will receive the chili award, a spoon or ladle with the words "Chili Blast" on it.
Proceeds from the event go to Discover Downtown Merrill.
