Judy Carlson worked as an RN at the Bump Clinic in Rhinelander for 20 years. Subsequently, she gained extensive experience as a writer, as she worked in pharmaceutical research doing technical writing for 19 years. After retirement, she took writing classes at UW's School of the Arts, joined a writing group, and now writes in a variety of genres. "Thunder in the Tropics," published in 2013, is a novel of murder and mystery set in Hawaii, where Carlson is well acquainted with the landscape. Her debut novel will keep you guessing until the end as you join two amateur sleuths in their dangerous island escapade to find a killer, the library said in a press release.
Ann Andrashie wrote newsletters and advertising for several businesses but once her children were grown she was able to devote the time needed for her own writing. With much encouragement, she completed her first novel in 2013, "Dog Island." It has earned an Amazon five-star rating, the Noveltunity Book Club Readers Choice Award, and was recently picked up by Christine F. Anderson Publishing. "Dog Island" is about a 12-year old girl, circa 1972, who is on a personal quest in the Northwoods/Lake Superior area. This novel is a "dog rescue" story, a "coming of age" tale, and a mystery as well ... and much, much more, the release states.
The library has held a local authors' night the last two years, and they have been proven to be popular. The audience will have an opportunity to ask the authors questions, which in the past has provided a great exchange of ideas and been an interesting component of the evening. Refreshments will be served, and the authors' books will be available for purchase and signing. Funding for this event is provided by Northern Arts Council. Call the Rhinelander District Library at (715) 365-1070 with any questions.
