Former RHS teacher accepts plea agreement on theft charge
Juergens, 36, was charged with felony theft in July after he allegedly stole medical equipment valued at more than $9,000 from Ministry St. Mary's Hospital while he was being treated in an exam room.
The charge was amended to a misdemeanor as part of a plea agreement.
This is Juergens' second brush with the law in less than a year.
The former educator was sentenced to 31 days in jail and four years probation in January after he entered guilty pleas to two misdemeanor counts of theft, a misdemeanor count of possession of THC and a felony count of manufacture/delivery of THC.
Those charges were filed after investigators found a 66-plant marijuana grow in Juergens' home, along with drug paraphernalia and several prescription medications. Investigators also found several items believed to have been stolen from the high school.
The school district terminated Juergens' employment last November after the drug and theft charges were filed.
Juergens waived his right to a preliminary hearing on the new charge Aug. 7 and entered his plea Aug. 27.
Judge Patrick O'Melia withheld sentence for 12 months, placed Juergens on probation for 12 months and ordered him to serve 14 days in jail, which would become 32 days if he violates the terms of his probation.
The original charge carried a maximum sentence of six years in prison.
