Photos: 5th annual RIA faceoff banquet raises over $10K
Hockey and figure skating supporters showed up in droves to enjoy a barbecue-style meal and partake in various raffles and auctions which took place throughout the night.
Pictured right, Kari Zambon of Holiday Acres Resort presents RIA rink manager Brett Aylesworth with a check for $1,637. Holiday Acres donates a portion of sales when out-of-town hockey teams stay at the resort over the winter while participating in tournaments at the RIA.
Pictured, below right, Buck Kipper works the crowd as he auctions off an item. Live action items included an autographed Joe Pavelski USA Hockey jersey, a VIP package to a Detroit Red Wings game, a chef's table dinner at Holiday Acres, among other things.
According to Aylesworth, preliminary numbers show that the RIA raised over $10,000 - a record for the event. Money raised will go to offset operating expenses.
The Faceoff banquet is held in conjuction with the beginning of the winter season at the RIA. Youth hockey players and figure skaters began practicing last week. The first youth games at the RIA will take place Sunday, Nov. 2.
