NCM to host 'Night at the Museum' Halloween event
The Northwoods Children's Museum (NCM) will host its 7th annual "A Night at the Museum" Halloween event on Friday, Oct. 24, from 5 to 9 p.m. This event is free to the public due to the generous sponsorship of River Valley Bank of Eagle River which is covering the cost of admission, advertising, decorations, prizes and other program-related costs.
"Our Night at the Museum event brings in over 500 people each year," said Rouleen Gartner, NCM executive director. "Because of the support we get from River Valley Bank, we are able to continue to offer this free to the community."
The museum begins its transformation to a not-too-scary atmosphere with special lighting throughout the building, festive decorations, and fun and games around every corner. Costumed characters help bring all of the exhibits to life and facilitate Halloween-themed games with the young ghouls and goblins as they go through each station to collect stamps to fill their game card for door prizes and giveaways to fill their treat bags.
"The spook-tacular outdoor graveyard has been a crowd favorite every year," said Gartner. "Long-time volunteer and NCM board president Ken Nimmer is the man behind the show and works tirelessly with his wife Lynne to put on a great show for all ages."
Costumes are not required, but add to the fun and spooky ambience. Grown-ups are also encouraged to dress up in their cutest or scariest attire. Those who do will be given special entry slips for a chance to win prizes.
A majority of the staff are volunteers that range from high school students to retirees and more are always needed as it takes over 50 volunteers to put on an event of this size. The event is free to the public but the museum is asking attendees to make a donation of a non-perishable item for the Vilas County Food Pantry. For additional information or to volunteer to help at the event, contact the Northwoods Children's Museum at (715) 479-4623 or [email protected].
