The southwest corner of Davenport and Stevens streets was originally occupied by a hotel. Built as the Oneida House in 1887, the old hotel (seen here in a postcard view mailed in 1938) was used alternately as a grocery store and saloon after 1907. Shortly after this scene was photographed, a disastrous fire destroyed the building and the corner lot remained empty until Bud O'Melia opened a gas station here in 1951. It is now occupied by the law offices of O'Melia, Schiek & McEldowney.
