"[It went] really well, we had a record number of people (attend)," said Beth Hanson, manager of Hanson's Garden Village.
Guests could participate in crafts such as making a bat, helping stuff a scarecrow, digging through oats for scary trinkets, as well as planting succulents and decorating them with spider webs to make spooky succulents.
The children, many of whom were in costume, could play games such as guess that plant, coloring, chalk work, pumpkin tic tac toe - tic tac toe with small orange or white pumpkins - ring toss, or beanbag throwing.
Other activities included sitting on an antique tractor, navigating a straw bale maze, and visiting the 4-H booths.
"We're having a good time, it's real enjoyable for the kids," said Ryan Berghammer, a first-time attendee.
The children loved the hayride and were looking forward to the maze and pumpkin bowling.
Victoria Berghammer liked the ride and feeding the chickens.
"[The hayride] was fun," Madelyn Mathwig seconded.
Children that visited the 4-H tent got to make rockets out of straws.
By noon Lynn Feldman, 4-H youth development agent, had helped about 40 children make rockets.
She also had a map of October's night sky. Children could point the word "north" toward the north, keep it pointing there and flip the image toward the ground so they could learn the location of constellations.
"It's been a really good turnout and for just throwing something together we have a good variety of our projects that are very active illustrated today," Feldman said.
She talked to a lot of people who didn't know what 4-H was or that registration is free.
"I think we have a good turnout, it's a cooler day but it's nice in the greenhouse and everybody seems to be having a good time," said owner Sue Hanson.
Guests brought non-perishable food donations for the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry. Sue Hanson said it was to give back to everyone who has helped her business over the years.
Fall Fest is the last event of the season at Hanson's Garden Village. The store will close for the winter at the end of the month.
