Area businesses and organizations are scaring up some fun for the second annual Eagle River Hallow-Fest planned for Saturday, Oct. 25.

Aron Houdini, nephew of famed escape artist Harry Houdini, returns for two activities at Hallow-Fest, which also includes a treasure hunt, children's games and costume contests, hands-on scary art projects, cookie decorating, a pet costume contest and more.

"Aron's escape performance was a highlight of last year's Hallow-Fest," said Susanne Erickson, event coordinator and president of the Eagle River Business Association.

"This year, in addition to his escape show at 4 p.m., Aron will be at Trig's on Wall Street between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.," Erickson said. "He'll be performing magic tricks and it will be a great opportunity for people to meet him and ask questions."

Most of the day's Hallow-Fest events will take place in a two-block area of Wall Street between Railroad and First streets. Other events take place nearby.

The schedule for the day includes:

A scavenger hunt and cookie decorating for children from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Trees For Tomorrow, 519 Sheridan Street East. Both events are free.

Free horse-drawn wagon rides between the Depot on Railroad Street and Trees For Tomorrow from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a Mystic Sisters storyteller on board.

Music provided by Diamond Pepper from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. near the Country Store downtown.

Children's games from 12 to 3 p.m. at the information booth. Kids can enjoy pumpkin bowling, a ball toss, and a guessing game. They can also have their photo taken.

Hands-on scary art projects and fingernail art with The Warehouse art center from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Vilas Cinema on Wall Street.

A treasure hunt with participating downtown stores, from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants can pick up a map at the Hallow-Fest Information Booth at Wall and Main streets, then visit area businesses for clues. Everyone who completes the treasure hunt will receive a goodie bag and have their name placed in a drawing for cash prizes.

Kids costume contests with judging in four age groups (infant to 5 years old; 6 to 8 years; 9 to 12, and 13 to 17) between 3 and 3:30 p.m. at the information booth.

Pet costume contest with judging from 3 to 3:30 p.m. at Many Ways of Peace, 217 S. Main St.

Aron Houdini's Escape Act at 4 p.m. near the information booth at Wall and Main streets.

An adult costume contest events will take place at various local bars later in the evening.

The downtown Eagle River events are just some of those related to Halloween that are taking place in the Eagle River area during October.

Eagle Falls Adventure Golf & Laser Tag on Highway 70 East in Eagle River is featuring a haunted house from 7 to 11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday in October and Nov. 1. Cost is $10.

The Lions Club also will host its traditional Halloween night event from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Oct. 31, at Northland Pines Middle School.

Eagle Waters Resort is sponsoring Houdini's visit to Eagle River and has other Halloween activities planned, including a ghost bus tour with a visit to the Paulding Light in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

"We continue to add to the schedule of events and we're expecting a great turnout," Erickson said. "This is a fantastic event that has something for everyone to enjoy."
