Melody Maids entertain residents at Friendly Village
By Kayla Thomason-
They played the piano and sang songs residents knew and enjoyed. Some tunes were accompanied by a train whistle or bubbles, depending on the subject matter.
"I love [The Melody Maids], I give them a hard time once in a while, I keep them on their toes," joked Margaret Drumheller, a five-year resident of Friendly Village. "I love them to death and I hope that they keep coming here."
Other people who call Friendly Village home appreciate what the maids do.
"I love music," Patricia Stein said. "I used to play piano in my younger years."
Stein worked at Friendly Village for years before she became a resident.
Harriet "Hattie" Jeffrock has only been living at Friendly Village for two weeks but she enjoyed having some time to sit and listen to the melodies.
"I love the music, I like music," Jeffrock said. "I listen to it all the time at home and I have my radio with me."
The Melody Maids perform at area facilities once a month.
Members have come and gone throughout the years for various reasons. The Melody Maids who performed at Friendly Village were Ruth Janz, June Omg, Marge Bacic and Rosemary Kwaterski.
"I think the people enjoy it and sometimes you think maybe they aren't listening but they really are and that's what we come for, to make them feel better," Janz said.
