Shirley Sowinski accepted the award on behalf of Sowinski Farms.
"We're just always happy to help out the community and whenever we can do a worthwhile donation to something, and of course our veterans are a high priority for us, it was just a worthwhile endeavor for us," Sowinski said.
The Sowinski family has a history of military service so aiding military groups is important to them.
AMVETS acquired the building supplies through a grant it received from Home Depot to finish remodeling the Rhinelander Veterans Center. The organization needed a place to store the materials and Sowinski Farms had a trailer available for them to use.
"[The grant will cover] just about do everything that we have to do here," said Le Roy Eades, building manager for the Rhinelander Veterans Center. "Our bathroom, when we put the new bathroom in, it's going to be the most expensive, but otherwise we have all the material we need here on that trailer."
The room that is being remodeled is used by the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), American Legions, AMVETS, NCO Club and the Military Support Group as a meeting room. It is also where they host their Christmas parties.
The bar was finished first so troops coming home from weekend drills have a place to go.
"I think it's great that they are going to have a place for all the vets to come to and enjoy," Sowinski said.
The bathroom will be unisex and wheelchair accessible.
Eades became involved with the military support group after his grandson was deployed to Iraq in 2002.
