Second annual Zumba Party for Paws set for Oct. 18
By Kayla Thomason-
Cost is $10 for people 12 and up and $2 for children 4 and up. Children between the ages of 4 and 11 will have their own designated dance area.
About 40 dancers participated in last year's party.
Event coordinator Veronika Baron anticipates there will be 50 to 100 people dancing for pets this year. Baron has been doing Zumba for four years.
She organized last year's event with the help of Val Foley and Angela Kirkham.
"It was such a success and we had people asking us to make it an annual event," Baron said. "We love Zumba and animals so the event is such a positive thing all around."
For those who are unfamiliar with Zumba it has become a very popular cardio dance workout that improves cardiovascular fitness, burns calories, relieves stress and improves muscle tone.
Prize drawing tickets can be purchased at the event for $1 or six for $5.
Prizes may consist of water bottles, a vehicle oil change, YMCA passes, restaurant gift certificates, gift baskets and a one-hour massage.
All the money raised from the event will go to the humane society. Last year's event netted $1,300.
"Whether you join the Zumba Party for Paws, come as a spectator or make a donation to the event, your support will help the homeless pets in our community," Baron said.
Bottled water donated by RIPCO Credit Union will be provided for the dancers.
