Autumn - with its crisp scent and rich colors - is finally here. Eagle River will celebrate this uniquely beautiful season - and Wisconsin's own cranberry, during the 35th annual Cranberry Fest.

The event will be Oct. 4-5 starting at 9 a.m. at the Vilas County Fairgrounds.

The festivities include marsh and winery tours. The cost of the tour is $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

The Eagle River Chamber of Commerce recommends people make reservations. To do so, call the chamber at (715) 479-8575.

Cranberry Fest is free to the public but there is a $5 charge for parking.

Attendees will find food and hot beverages with and without cranberries, a variety of flavored craisins, a smorgasbord of cranberry-baked goods, and adults can try cranberry beer and wine.

The event also includes cranberry pancake breakfast and a mini bog display at the Northwards Children's Museum. Attendees can also participate in the Cranberry Fitness events such as the 5K bike-walk-run which will benefit the Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital rehabilitation program.

"I would say a lot of the people come up and go out to the fairgrounds for the music, for the food and we have over 325 arts-and-crafts vendors that have handmade items by the seller and, of course, the activities downtown, so there's something for everyone," said Kim Emerson, executive director of the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce.

One treat not to be missed is the world's largest cranberry cheesecake. Slices will be available for people to enjoy. Proceeds from cheesecake sales will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

On Saturday there will be a free shuttle bus that will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will pick people up at the Vilas County Fairgrounds on the east side, the corner of 1st and Wall Street, the First Congregational Curch, the Walter E. Olson Memorial Library, the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce, and back to the fairgrounds.

At 11:30 a.m. Sunday there will be a crafters' auction. The vendors donate items to be auctioned off. The money raised will go to a scholarship for the Northland Pines High School graduating seniors.

Other cranberry-related events will be located downtown.

The Downtown Cranberry Fest Farmers' Market and antique market will also take place on Saturday.

"I think it's a great event that everyone will have a great time at," Emerson said.
