Take a sleigh ride in Eagle River

By Kayla Thomason-

There is nothing quite like sitting in a horse-drawn sleigh, all bundled up next to a loved one, while fluffy snowflakes dance toward the ground. Those who have never experienced the sensation can take a ride through Eagle River on Nov. 29. Rides will be offered from 1 to 3 p.m.

Sleigh rides will be offered in conjunction with the sixth annual Ice Shanty Parade. The parade will start at the Eagle River Historical Society and continue through downtown Eagle River.

The shanties will be decorated in a Christmas theme and the owner of the best-decorated shack will win a prize.

People are also welcome to register floats. Those with the best Christmas floats will earn a prize but they will be competing with Santa Claus who will have his own float.

Santa will be stationed behind the Eagle River Historical Society. Milk, cookies, hot chocolate, hot dogs and other goodies will be available in a shanty behind Santa.

"It's a really fun day, the shanties are really fun to see," said Katie Hayes, president of the Eagle River Business Association.

While the festivities are under way people can take a sleigh ride, free of charge.

The sleigh rides will continue every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Dec. 27.

The festivities are sponsored by the Downtown Eagle River Business Association.

To register a float or shanty, or for more information, call Hayes at (715) 891-4929.
