Rhinelander tree-lighting ceremony set for Nov. 28
By Kayla Thomason-
The ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. at Stevensport Square. A parade usually precedes the ceremony but the procession was canceled this year due to a low number of entries.
Frontier Communication and Big Daddy's will supply hot chocolate and coffee to warm up the crowd. There will also be cookies to nibble on. In past years over 500 cups of hot chocolate were served during the ceremony.
The iconic Mr. and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance to delight the children.
The Rhinelander High School Show Choir will perform holiday songs throughout the evening.
As the excitement starts to wind down Mayor Dick Johns will top off the night with one of the holiday's prettiest traditions - the decorating and lighting of the holiday tree. The pines around Stevensport Square will twinkle throughout the holiday season.
"I think it's just really important that everybody tries to get downtown that afternoon," said Dana DeMet, executive director of the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce. "We schedule it on Black Friday just as an extra incentive for people to get out and about that weekend as they are here visiting family and out shopping."
