On Saturday, Nov. 15, the School District of Rhinelander Special Olympics team traveled to Eau Claire to compete in the state sectionals bowling meet.
Five athletes had advanced on from regionals to compete in sectionals. Participating were Paige Appling, Casandra Gleesing, Sarec Trudeau, Hannah Karstedt and Keegan Marko.
Trudeau qualified for state, with a third-place finish in his division. Athletes had to finish in the top three to advance to the state competition.
His Hodag teammates gave it their best effort with many strikes and spares along the way, and had a lot of fun.
Hannah Karsted finished fourth in her division, Casandra Gleesing took fifth, Paige Appling finished sixth and Keegan Marko placed seventh.
Trudeau, a fifth grader at Central Intermediate School, will compete in the state competition Dec. 6 in Wausau.
The School District of Rhinelander wishes Trudeau the best of luck and will be cheering him on.
Middle school bowlers defeat Antigo girls
The Rhinelander/Elcho middle school level club bowling team improved to 2-0 on the season with an 8-1 victory over the Antigo girls' middle school team Sunday at Edgar Lanes.
The Hodags averaged 144.6 pins per game in the nine-game baker series and filled 57.8 percent of their frames as they defeated the Red Robins 136-109, 156-135, 123-105, 136-98, 186-148, 138-125, 165-141, 107-121, 154-140.
Mackenzie Bourcier and Calvin Schneider led the way. Both filled 12 of 18 frames with four strikes. Katrina Blasius was 11 of 18 with five strikes, Jacob Wagler was 9 of 18 with three strikes and Eric Jones was 8 of 18 with five strikes.
RBA 8th-graders take second in Phillips
The Rhinelander Basketball Association's eighth-grade traveling girls' basketball team went 2-1 in and finished second in its pool at a tournament Nov. 15 in Phillips.
The Hodags started the day with a 29-18 loss to Prentice, but rebounded with a 41-29 win over Athens and a 29-26 victory over Antigo.
