For nearly 50 years, the people of Tomahawk have greeted the orange-clad hunters with a venison feast. It's a way for the community to wish the hunters luck in their pursuit of white-tailed deer and to celebrate the opening of deer hunting season.
This year's Venison Feed will be served on Nov. 21.
Starting at 11:30 a.m. hunters and non-hunters alike can sink their teeth into a meaty venison burger. Hungry venison lovers can line up on West Wisconsin Avenue for the meal.
Volunteers will be grilling a whopping 1,600 venison-and-beef burgers for the hungry crowd.
Lunch will also be served with chips and drinks. There is no charge for the meal.
"(The Venison Feed is) a traditional thing, it's been going on for 49 years," said Jan Arends, members services coordinator at the Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce. "I think we're the only community in the country that does this."
The event ends when all the burgers are gone, that usually takes approximately two hours.
