The Crescent Elementary Craft/Home Business Fair is getting bigger and better. The second annual event, held Saturday in the school gym, saw an increase in vendors and customers.

"So far [customer numbers are] getting there, we had a little late start because of the weather but that's to be expected," said Pearl Thompson, member of the Crescent Elementary School PAC (Parent Advisory Council) which organized the fair.

All of the vendors sold goods from their home businesses. There were 10 more booths this year and some of them were return vendors.

"Vendors are returning from last year which is really nice, we're getting a good following base so it's really good," Thompson said.

Shoppers enjoyed the variety of merchandise. Everything from special stone candles and doTERRA essential oils to dog collars and leashes, Cookie Pies, games and Christmas items were for sale.

"They have a lot of selection here, I really like it," said first-time attendee Stephanie Wertel. "I actually like the Christmas wreaths and stuff like that but it's that time of year."

She also liked the special candles and pet items.

Her son, Kodi Wertel, a second grader, had his eye on the game "Be Alert." He also wanted to get a "Despicable Me" and military collar for his dog.

"I love [the fair], it's increased from last year, [there is] nice customer interaction and it's just a fun time," Penny Strupp said.

Strupp sold customizable lockets at the fair. This was her second year as a vendor.

Laurie Shepherd of Gray Wolf Woolens makes mittens, neck warmers and other hunting and winter attire. The mittens take an hour and a half to two hours to complete. The neck warmers don't take as long.

"[The neck warmers are] great, my husband loves them for snow blowing and hunting," Shepherd said.

This was her first year selling her wares at the fair and she was pleased with the diverse selection.

"They've got a good variety of booths available," she said.

Bethany Beske attended the fair for the second time.

"We just come and look, try to see what we can see," Beske said. "We're looking for Christmas gifts and Secret Santa gifts."

She said she liked that this event doesn't compete with other events.

Proceeds from the event benefit the children at Crescent Elementary. The funds will allow the students to go on field trips, get school supplies, technology, books for the library and other items.

Soon the students will be taking field trips to the Ced Vig Outdoor Classroom (CAVOC) and the Kovac Planetarium in Monico.
