Before the show began, guests were able to peruse a boutique featuring unique fashions and other items including a variety of boas, adult and infant clothes and items for dogs. The event also included a bake sale where the desserts were displayed on vintage plates.
The motto for the bake sale was "You buy the cake take home the plate."
Opening the fashion show were seven young girls from the Northwoods School of Dance modeling costumes with a "Lion King" theme.
After the opening act, the other models began walking the catwalk, some accompanied by dogs wearing various canine attire.
"All the merchants involved in the fashion show are from the Northwoods," said event cochair Judi Linder.
Businesses from Rhinelander, Boulder Junction, Crandon, Tomahawk, Minocqua and Eagle River contributed fashions to be displayed in the show.
"I wish I were 40 years younger," said guest Bettina McCleary. "I love it, it's lots of fun and all this glitter is something new to me. This is a new experience in clothes."
McCleary loved seeing the dogs and the little girls in the show and thought the butterfly outfit was "just precious."
"We wanted to really make the show super entertaining; it's a fashion show but we wanted it to be fashion entertainment," Linder said.
Ray Quicksilver wore a coat and scarves that have a wonderful past.
John Lennon originally had the coat. He gave it to Jimi Hendrix who gave it to Quicksilver at a concert. At the same concert Janis Joplin gave Quicksilver the scarves.
"I liked [the show], this was a well worth cause to bring this coat out to show people different things and stuff and I enjoyed bringing the coat out and the scarves, every once and a while I do that and I thought this is a good occasion to do this."
Guests were treated to a meal catered by the Rhinelander Cafe & Pub and the evening ended with an appearance by the Rhinelander Hodag. The audience got a kick out of it.
"I'm just glad that I'm here and I wish ArtStart the best things in the world and just grow and grow," McCleary said.
The fashion show is one of ArtStart's major fundraisers. All proceeds from the fashion show will go to the non-profit art gallery.
