The School District of Rhinelander's special meeting of the electorate to consider the sale of the South Park School property has been rescheduled for June 16 at 5:30 p.m. immediately before a regular Board of Education meeting.

Unable to publish the required two Class 2 legal notices in time to hold the electorate meeting Tuesday, the district instead held a special meeting to choose a new date for the South Park vote.

The district has been trying to sell the building since the Northwoods Community Secondary School, its last occupant, moved into the high school at the beginning of the 2012-'13 school year.

Bethesda Lutheran Communities has made an offer to purchase the building but the district has said it will not disclose the terms of the proposal until the meeting of the electorate is held.

The electorate will decide whether to accept Bethesda's offer because Superintendent Kelli Jacobi said the district's legal counsel has advised that is the proper procedure for the sale of district property.

The district is working with First Weber Group Broker Associate Ron Skagen to sell South Park.

The building was last discussed in open session by the Operations and Strategic Planning Committee last September, when it was listed at $250,000. At that time, the committee rejected lowering the price to $199,500. The sale of the building has not been discussed in open session since that time.

In October, following a closed session discussion, the board directed Jacobi to work with Skagen on a new strategy to market the property, gauge interest and lower the asking price.

Those discussions resulted in the price being dropped from $250,000 to $179,500. In January, the building had a listed price of $159,500.

Last week, First Weber had the building listed on its website at $139,500.

New hires

In other news, the board also approved two new hires during the meeting, both of whom are 1.0 FTE (full-time equivalent).

Gretta Layman was hired as a science teacher at Rhinelander High School and Megan Biscobing was approved as a fifth grade teacher at Central Intermediate School.
