"We had awesome students that worked very hard, we went on the tours, we had the presenters, it was very fast-paced (and) they were able to keep up," said course instructor Katherine Garrison.
The course, which lasts a semester, is designed for those who have a disability.
In addition to soft skills students learn about interviewing, filling out applications, self-advocacy and more.
Each student picked their career choice and job-shadowed within that field. All the students raved about the course.
"I feel very good [about graduating]," Melissa Baldwin said. "[I plan] to take another class in the fall, soft skills, and doing lots and lots of other things."
She wants to work in an office.
"[My future plans are] going back to school, and after school going off to college," David Marley said.
Marley is a Northland Pines student hoping to pursue an automotive career.
Natalie Schneider also loved the class.
"I feel great," Schneider said. "I'm trying to get another college class for [the] day care center."
She doesn't know what the other class will be. She said she will take whatever course is available through Nicolet or Headwaters.
Amanda Pratt, a Wabeno High School student, thought the class was cool and she enjoyed the tours. She isn't quite sure what she'd like to do in the future.
"I'll think about [working in a bakery] but it was kind of hard," she said.
The Wabeno High School hired a driver to get Pratt to her classes twice a week.
This is the second time the Employability Skills Course has been offered and the first time the Human Service Center has funded a student to come to class.
Nicolet and Headwaters are using Edgewood College's cutting-edge program as a guideline for their course, as well as working with Think College.
"The premise of this is to help the high school students or someone who may have already graduated that missed the skills to segue into either work or education," Garrison said.
The Employability Skills Course is a Nicolet class made possible by Nicolet College, Headwaters Inc., Northland Pines High School, Three Lakes High School and Wabeno High School.
Nicolet is working on developing more classes that focus on particular career clusters.
