Oneida County Health Department recently received a grant for a "Gear Up Oneida County" project and partnered with the School District of Rhinelander elementary CHAMPS (Community Helping Afterschool to Mold Positive Students) program to present the information.

"Gear Up Oneida County" is a biking initiative designed to increase physical activity among youth and introduce bike safety and awareness. The program addressed everything from the importance of wearing a helmet to teaching hand signals and the inner workings of a bike. There was also a BMX presentation.

The program culminated with a bike raffle and all were encouraged to participate in the bike rodeo at Walmart from 4 to 6 p.m. May 21, an early release day. The winners of the bike raffle were Austin Wolter and Abigale Johnson.
