Brauer was awarded the distinction at the 2014 Wisconsin Aviation Conference earlier this month in recognition of nearly 45 years of aviation experience in Wisconsin.
"I feel very honored," Brauer said. "I've been in this business for nearly 45 years and to be honored by your peers for all of the accomplishments that you've done over the years and stuff like that and all of the changes I've seen, I feel pretty honored."
According to a press release announcing the award, Brauer became the airport director in 1990.
"Under Brauer's leadership, the airport received the Federal Aviation Administration Airport Safety Excellence Award and the Balchen/Post National Award for outstanding achievement in airport snow and ice control," the release states. "(The airport also) acquired the world's first commercial inferred deicing facility, the country's first non-motorized disable passenger lift and a first floor boarding bridge for regional aircraft."
Brauer has also been recognized in the past as the Wisconsin Aviation Person of the Year in recognition of his distinguished contributions and promotion of Wisconsin aviation and has received the Transportation Security Administration/Federal Security Director's Award of Excellence for his outstanding support of the administration's management and employees. He has also previously served as the president of the Wisconsin Airport Management Association.
"We are honored to have our airport director recognized for all his accomplishment in Wisconsin aviation," Robert G. Heck, airport commission chairman, said in the press release. "Mr. Brauer continues to carry on the legacy of our airport by his hard work and dedication."
