The Nicolet Area Technical College Board of Trustees named Kenneth Urban interim president of the college Monday during a special meeting of the board.

Urban will begin those duties July 1, the day after current president Elizabeth Burmaster ends her five-year tenure in that position. Last week Burmaster announced that she has accepted the presidency at Frederick Community College in Maryland. She is scheduled to start her new job Aug. 18.

"Dr. Urban has a strong working knowledge of day-to-day operations and the long-term direction of Nicolet College," said Deanna Pierpont, chair of the board of trustees. "He has served as vice president of teaching, learning, and student success at Nicolet for the past four years and has all of the skills necessary to lead the college during this time of transition."

Prior to coming to Nicolet in 2010, Urban served as director of college advancement for six years at Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids.

The board approved Urban's interim presidency as a one-year contract that will run through June 30, 2015. During that time the board will conduct a formal search for a president.

"The board would like to extend its sincere appreciation and gratitude to Libby for her years of service to Nicolet and the people of the Northwoods," Pierpont said. "She is an extraordinary leader who will be greatly missed. We wish Libby all the best in her new position as president of Frederick Community College."
