The Rhinelander High School team of Michael Anderson, Lukas Kreger, Andrew Stafford, and Brendan McGuire, placed fourth in the state at the Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl (FICB) Wednesday, April 30, in Milwaukee. They earned the third seed after the initial round of play by defeating Sauk Prairie. Rhinelander then defeated Bowler in the first round and cruised past a team from Wilmot in the second round to make it to the final four. Neenah upended Rhinelander in the semifinals and that meant the Hodags would play one more game for third or fourth place. Menomonee Falls eclipsed the Hodags by one question to finish in third place. A team from Wilmot defeated Neenah in the final round of the day to win the state title.

The Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl is a financial literacy study program culminating in a college bowl quiz competition. The FICB aligns with statewide learning standards for financial literacy and is an effective strategy to promote learning. The competition features student teams (up to four members and an alternate) competing for trophies and prizes. All told, over 600 students (from Kenosha County in the south to Forest County in the north) participated in the seven regional tournaments and the state championship.

All FICB teams are led by adult coaches who help students study and prepare. The Rhinelander team is coached by Patrick Kubeny, business education teacher at Rhinelander High School.
