A Rhinelander High School teacher is facing misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct charges in connection with a domestic incident.

Jason S. Kremer, 36, was arrested following a May 2 incident in which he allegedly struck a woman in the nose during an argument. He has since posted a $500 cash bond and is scheduled for an adjourned initial appearance inā€ˆOneida County Circuit Court Monday, May 12.

According to the criminal complaint, Rhinelander police were dispatched to a home on Timber Heights Drive at approximately 11:40 p.m. Friday, May 2 following a report of a domestic incident between a man and woman. Upon arrival, officers located the woman and observed that she had blood on the front of her clothes as well as on her nose and mouth.

The woman told police that she and Kremer got into an argument while eating at a local bar. The argument continued as they were driving home, she said. The woman said she "jabbed" Kremer with her elbow and he then "backhanded" her in the face, striking her nose and causing it to bleed.

The complaint states that when Kremer and the woman arrived at their residence, Kremer went inside and the woman stayed in the vehicle. She said she called a friend and when the friend and others arrived at the residence they alerted police.

The complaint states that officers were unable to make contact with Kremer the night of May 2. He came to the police department the following day at about 5:30 a.m. to speak with officers. Kremer told police he struck the woman in the nose by accident while attempting to block her from hitting him.

A report attached to the criminal complaint from one of the responding officers states the injury to the woman's nose "was inconsistent with an accidental backhand."

School District of Rhinelander Superintendent Kelli Jacobi said Kremer was put on administrative leave for one day, Monday, and will work for the rest of the week from a location other than the high school.

"(Tuesday) and the rest of this week, he has been reassigned to other duties at an off-school location doing curriculum work that needs to be done for his department," Jacobi said. "He will be doing that until his court date on Monday."

Kremer has been employed by the school district since 2001.
