Girlfriends Getaway a fun, educational weekend for women
By Kayla Thomason-
Participants were entertained by comedian Tiffany Norton, created wonderful crafts, learned about edible plants and tasted wine from Trig's Cellar 70.
"It's very interesting," said Cheryl Edwards, who was participating in Girlfriends Getaway for the first time. "It's been a great experience, it's been fun. I highly recommend it and (will) do it again next year."
Edwards participated in the wine tasting and the paint with fabric class.
In the paint with fabric class, women were asked to choose baggies filled with different shades of fabric - blue, green or red. They arranged their fabric pieces on a canvas board with Miracle Fabric Sheets, a sticky fabric that adheres to the strips when ironed, designed an image and set it.
Jessica Thunder, another first-time participant, attended the wire-wrapped jewelery seminar, the wine tasting and the paint with fabric class. She also saw the comedian.
"It was really, really fun. I had a great time," she said.
During the wire-wrapped ring seminar the women created their own ring with a stone, adding little spirals to give it a fancy flair.
Approximately 20 women attended Girlfriends Getaway, most of whom were from the Rhinelander area.
"We're going to look forward to doing it next year and hopefully have (it grow) and have the ladies have a good time and spread the word to their friends and bring them back next year," said Kate Bauman, event coordinator with the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce.
