Three Lakes superintendent charged in domestic incident
Three Lakes Superintendent Dr. George Karling, 60, was arrested that day after police responded to his Minocqua residence following a report of an incident between him and a woman.
According to a criminal complaint filed April 21, police were alerted by a friend of the woman at approximately 12:51 p.m. Saturday, April 19.
When police arrived at the residence, about 45 minutes after the incident, Karling had left. The woman told police that she and Karling had gotten into a "heated" argument over some personal matters and Karling "put both of his hands around the front of her neck and started pushing her backwards."
The woman said at one point she tripped but didn't fall to the floor because Karling "held her up by her neck."
The complaint states Karling then pushed the woman out the front door and locked it. The woman told police she noticed a neighbor and made a comment to him about calling the police. Karling unlocked the door, let her back in and the argument continued, the woman said.
According to the complaint, Karling eventually left the residence and the woman called a friend to inform her about the incident.
Officers could not see any visible marks on the woman's neck when they responded but the friend told police she could see red marks on the woman's neck when she first arrived at the residence.
The complaint states that Karling was at Three Lakes School when law enforcement made contact with him. He was arrested and taken to the Oneida County jail. He was released after posting a $150 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court May 23 for an adjourned initial appearance.
Karling has been the superintendent of the Three Lakes School District since 1989.
Three Lakes School Board President Randy Ingram did not respond to a request for comment as of press time.
